Debra Valencia Launches New Fabric Craft Kits Line with Sykel, a Division of Benartex
Valencia was appointed merchandise and design director to lead licensed product development
Los Angeles, CA — Debra Valencia and licensing partner Sykel, a division of Benartex and part of the global BERNINA organization, has appointed Valencia as merchandise and design development director.
In this new role, Valencia will oversee the development of a comprehensive line of licensed fabric craft products based on Sykel’s extensive portfolio of licensed brands. The licensing agreement was negotiated by The Brand Liaison, Debra Valencia’s exclusive licensing agency.
The first collection, Fan Essentials by Debra Valencia, launches in Mid Fall 2026 with more than 180 officially licensed college and university designs. The inaugural collection includes:
- Apron Kits
- Pillow Set Kits
- Cornhole Bag Kits
- Tote Bag Kits
- Bulletin Board Kits
Each DIY fabric craft kit will be printed on premium cotton with step by step instructions for sewing and/or “no sew” assembly. They will be individually packaged for retail distribution through major national chains and independent retailers across the United States.
Future product launches will expand into additional licensed properties, including Crayola, Susan G. Komen, DC Comics, U.S. military branches, and other nationally recognized brands. The product line will also grow to include seasonal collections, back-to-school items, dorm décor, home décor, and additional fabric craft projects.
“Debra is the perfect partner for Sykel to develop a line of fabric craft kits. She is a triple threat with fabric design, graphic design, and craft book authoring,” said Ira Cohen, General Manager at Skytel. Her unique combination of sewing expertise, design talent, and deep knowledge of the craft market provides the ideal foundation for this comprehensive product line. Fan Essentials by Debra Valencia fabric craft kits are performing exceptionally well. Buyers are responding enthusiastically to Debra’s tasteful designs. The individually packaged kits significantly expand our existing fabric assortment while creating opportunities for placement in retailers that do not traditionally carry fabric departments.”
