Cartoonist Group Licensing Celebrates "Frank and Ernest" Comic Strip's 45th Year Anniversary with First Time Licensing Opportunities!

Seattle, WA., September 5, 2017: “Frank and Ernest”, one of the most widely read American comic strips of the past four decades is in its 45th year! Now, for the first time, “Frank and Ernest” is available for licensing in apparel/footwear, accessories, home décor, housewares, gift and novelty and stationery/paper goods through its agent  Cartoonist Group Licensing. Thousands of cartoons from the vast collection of over 6000 “Frank and Ernest” strips, were culled to create 5 distinct collections based on the unique strengths of the cartoon strip and their vast market appeal.
The five collections include themes based on work life, the ups and downs of navigating life through its road signs, daily observations and musings, life as seen through the eyes of a newborn chick, and smart, pithy sayings like the famous line said by Bob Thaves, the creator of “Frank and Earnest”, in reference to Fred Astaire, “Sure he was great, but don’t forget Ginger Rogers did everything he did backwards and in high heels.”
Since the passing of Bob Thaves in 2006, Tom Thaves, Bob’s son, has been producing Frank and Ernest. Tom worked with his father for many years and now maintains the strip’s traditions of smart humor, subject variety and frequent wordplay.
“The strip chronicles the observations of two “everyman” who are anything but ordinary!” explained Sara Thaves, Founder of Cartoonist Group and Bob Thaves’ daughter. “My dad wanted the strip to have a lot of flexibility so he had Frank and Ernest show up in different settings, time periods and even appear as things and creatures other than people like in the new “Chick” collection.”
From its initial launch in 1972 to the present, the American comic strip has enjoyed a strong, loyal readership. Today, it appears in 1200 newspapers and is read daily by 25 million fans.
