Celebrate Pride 2021 with New Limited Edition Betty Boop x Fred Segal T-Shirt with Profits to Benefit GLAAD
Los Angeles, CA — Fleischer Studios and leading brand-licensing agency Global Icons have announced the launch of a limited-edition Betty Boop Pride T-shirt with iconic retailer, Fred Segal. The Los Angeles-based retailer, which has pioneered the shop-in-shop concept and is known for its innovative collaborations, will be offering the T-shirt beginning on June 8. All profits from sales will go to GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization.
The limited-edition T-shirt celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, bearing “Proud To Be Me” in bold Pride colors. A symbol of individuality, confidence and sass, the classic character Betty Boop, portrays empowerment with her biker chic outfit.
Mark Fleischer, Chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios said, “Our team at Fleischer Studios is delighted and moved that Betty Boop will be a part of this meaningful celebration. Betty’s universal messages of self-awareness, kindness, acceptance, love, and courage are as important as ever. We think that this tee’s ‘Proud to be me’ message will be inspirational to many.”
In partnership with GLAAD, actress, singer, songwriter, TV personality and RuPaul’s Drag Race star, Peppermint, will be joining a livestream on talkshoplive to bring continued awareness to LGBTQ+ rights. Viewers will have the opportunity to shop the Betty Boop T-shirt during the livestream, as well as an opportunity to donate to GLAAD at checkout. The livestream will be hosted on June 16 at 7 p.m. ET on talkshop.live/search/glaad.
The T-shirt will be available in-store at all Fred Segal retailers, online at www.fredsegal.com and on www.talkshop.live throughout the month of June.
About Betty Boop and Fleischer Studios:
First introduced in 1930, Betty Boop was created by Max Fleischer for his “Talkartoons” series, the first animated “talkies” which Max’s company, Fleischer Studios, produced for Paramount. Betty’s stage style was inspired by the many popular Jazz Age flappers and singers of the 1920s. Mae Questel provided Betty’s distinctive voice. By 1932 Betty, considered to be the first and only female animated screen star, had taken the country by storm. Betty starred in more than 100 cartoons, 90 of which are included in the official “Betty Boop” series, which ended in 1939. Since then, Betty has appeared in dozens of hit movies, television specials and commercials. She was the first cartoon character to be profiled by A&E’s “Biography” series.
Today, Fleischer Studios works with a great team of creative professionals to keep Betty entertaining millions of fans and collectors worldwide. Visit them online at www.fleischerstudios.com.
