Former VF Corp. Executive Named Sequential Brands CEO

Former VF Corp. executive Karen Murray was named Sequential Brands Group CEO, replacing Yehuda Shmidman. The move ended the former Iconix chief operating officer’s four-year run as Sequential CEO that featured a series of acquisitions including Heelys, Martha Stewart Omnimedia and Jessica Simpson. The largest was the $353 million purchase of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 2015. Sequential has struggled of late, having revised its 2017 revenue forecast to $170-$175 million from $175-$180 million amid “disappointing results” from U.S. retailers. Sequential’s stock also has fallen 45% in the last year. Prior to joining Sequential, Murray was president of VF Sportswear, overseeing the $1.2 billion Nautica brand as well as the Kipling brand. Murray joined VF in 2007 as president of Nautica Men’s Sportswear and Nautica Jeans Co.
