Otter Media Cuts Jobs, Reorganizes

Otter Media cut 10% of its employees in a reorganization of its digital brands that brings anime studio Rooster Teeth under Ellation Media.

There were no layoffs at Rooster Teeth (RWBY, gen:Lock), which had 380 employees as of June and recently shifted licensing responsibilities to internal staff after having previously been represented by Jazwares. It will be joined with anime service Crunchyroll under Ellation Media.

As a result, the sales staffs of Crunchyroll and Rooster Teeth will be “better aligned” to attract advertising and partnerships, Otter Media CEO Tony Goncalves said in a statement.

Rooster Teeth previously was part of Fullscreen Media, which acquired the studio in 2014 just months after it was purchased by Otter Media (a joint venture of AT&T and The Chernin Group). AT&T bought out Chernin in August and folded the joint venture into WarnerMedia, which was formed as part of its acquisition of Time Warner.
