People Profile: Liz DeSilva, SVP of Creative, Innovation, and Vision at Loungefly

The global licensing community is powered by an incredible group of professionals whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each week we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.

How did you get into licensing (or how did licensing find you)?
In 2010 I worked for an apparel company and designed some candy-licensed products.

What’s a “typical” day in your current position?
Product reviews, product reviews, and more product reviews! Concepting is also a big part of what we do, so when I can squeeze in time, I am always brainstorming concepts for the core line and our partners.

What’s your biggest personal or professional accomplishment?
The biggest accomplishment is to be in the position I am today—working to help build and grow the Loungefly brand.

What keeps you up at night? What’s your biggest challenge these days?
As a team, we want to make Loungefly the first collectible accessory company. We are working our way there, but it takes a ton of creativity and innovation.

In your opinion, what is the top skill every licensing executive should have in order to succeed?
A great attitude. The licensing community is built on amazing relationships. Never burn a bridge because people in this industry pop up all over the place.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, or what’s your favorite quote?
Nothing stands out in an interview like a unique point of view.

What is your favorite licensing deal of all time? (It doesn’t have to be one that was signed by you.)
Lisa Frank, my childhood hero and color queen. It was a dream come true to work with her.

If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing now?
Illustrating children’s books.

The last licensed product I bought was…
All of the Mattel Barbie dolls for the new movie.
