Spin Master Q4 Sales Dropped 3.8%

IL0219spinjpegSpin Master’s sales fell 3.8% to $445.2 million in Q4 ended Dec. 31, amid a 45% drop in revenue from its remote control and interactive business (Hatchimals, Zoomer, Air Hogs) to $107.9 million.

That decrease was partly offset by a 57.8% gain to $57.9 million in boys action and construction products driven by initial sales of its licensed How to Train Your Dragon and Monster Jam items and the return of the Bakugan line to the market after an eight-year absence.

Sales of Preschool and girls products jumped 35.8% to $139.1 million on strong sales of Paw Patrol and Rusty Rivets products, while the activities, games, puzzles and plush posted a 10.5% gain to $145.2 million.

At Toy Fair in New York, the company is introducing Viking figures, playsets and plush based on DreamWorks’ new How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World film that launched in Australia on Jan. 3 and is being released in the U.S. on Feb. 22. It also is unveiling 10 new Monster Jam trucks that will be available in the spring.

The new Bakugan figures follow the release of the “Bakugan Battle Planet” TV series on Cartoon Network (U.S.) and Teletoon (Canada) in December. The original series, “Bakugan Battle Brawlers”, ran 2007-2012.
