The Light Fund to republish The Licensing Phrase Book

Over the course of its 13 year history, the charity has set the long-term goal of raising the £1m total through numerous money-raising events, quizzes and challenges.
The UK licensing industry’s charity organisation The Light Fund is setting out to raise £120,000 this year in its bid to hit the big £1 million target.
Over the course of its 13 year history, the charity has set the long-term goal of raising the £1m total through numerous money-raising events, quizzes and challenges.
As part of its ongoing initiative, this year will see The Light Fund publish an updated edition of The Licensing Phrase Book that will be distributed for free at the upcoming Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, the Licensing Awards in London, BLE and other major licensing events.
The team will be seeking sponsorship to cover the cost of print and a donation to The Light Fund.
“Now is your chance to contribute to the new edition,” said Kelvyn Gardner, managing director of LIMA UK.
“We are looking for words, phrases or expressions that you have come across in your daily licensing work that we can translate into ordinary English.”
And if you are unsure what Gardner means, he has offered a couple of examples below:
Licensing speak: This is a long-term property
English: Don’t expect to make any money on this in the next five years.
Licensing speak: There will be a second window when the DVD comes out
English: The movie has moved no merchandise whatsoever
Deadline for submissions to this year’s The Licensing Phrase Book is April 29th and can be sent to Gardner at kgardner@licensing.org.
