The Metropolitan Museum of Art Launches Global Licensing Program

(New York, July 6, 2020)—Today, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York announced the launch of its global licensing program with the appointments of Beanstalk as the Museum’s U.S. and Japan licensing agency and WildBrain CPLG as its agency for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Beanstalk and WildBrain CPLG join Alfilo, which has been the Museum’s agent for China since 2018. With these appointments, The Met will continue its mission to inspire and educate through the stories in its more than 1.5 million works of art spanning 5,000 years of culture from around the globe. The Met’s licensing revenue supports the Museum’s ongoing mission for the collection, study, conservation, and preservation of art.

“Imbued with the spirit of New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the most dynamic and inspiring art museum in the world. With 5,000 years of art, knowledge, and ideas, and through its collection, scholarship, and programs, The Met offers endless ways to experience the wonders of art and make connections within the world’s cultural history,” says Lisa Silverman Meyers, Global Head of Licensing and Partnerships at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “In furthering our mission to contribute to a deeper understanding of art and make our collection accessible to all people, we aim to collaborate with partners that share our passion for finding narratives and celebrating creativity. We are thrilled to be working with Beanstalk, WildBrain CPLG, and Alfilo—agencies that embody the thoughtfulness and licensing expertise that make them ideal partners for The Met.”

The Museum will be pursuing opportunities in a range of diverse categories, including home and décor, gifting, trade textiles and furnishings, accessories, gifts, paper goods, apparel, beauty and personal care, publishing, and more.

Since its opening in 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has had a long history of working with some of the most well-known brands in the world. It has always been a part of the museum’s mission to inspire brands and consumers with its vast collection of artworks. More recently, in 2018, the Museum appointed Alfilo as its Chinese licensing agent, which has launched digital flagships for The Met on TMall and JD.com, featuring collaborations with leading brands including Perfect Diary, Pocky, and Tempo. The Met and Alfilo plan to announce a robust series of licensing deals timed to key shopping holidays in the coming months.
