Tony Roma's licensed products Japanese marketTony Roma’s makes its first licensing push in Japan, with two licensees launching sales of cooked pork ribs, pulled pork, sauces and seafood (salmon, shrimp) through Walmart’s 330 Seiyu supermarket and hypermarket stores. The products also will be sold through ecommerce retailer Rakuten, which also is launching an online grocery delivery service (Rakuten Seiyu Netsuper) in Japan in a joint venture with Walmart.

The licensees, who contractually couldn‘t be identified, are existing Seiyu suppliers. There are plans to expand the line in 2019, says Broad Street Licensing Group’s Bill Cross, whose agency represents Tony Roma’s.

Tony Roma’s has eight restaurants in Japan, with its first franchised location having opened in 1978.
