Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will expand its licensing with Disney, having acquired the company’s former game developer Avalanche Software, a spokesman said. Under Warner Bros., Avalanche will remain based in Salt Lake City and release a licensed Cars 3 title later this year, development of which was started prior to Disney shutting down its Infinity business in 2016. Warner Bros. began talks with Avalanche executives last year, including Senior VP John Blackburn, who now heads a studio with about 100 employees, says a Warner spokesman. Avalanche also will work on non-Disney titles. Warner Bros. Interactive, a network of seven development studios, has long developed games using licensed IP, including “Lego: Jurassic World” and “Lego Marvel’s Avengers”.
