Work It Out Wombats! Expands Merchandising and Licensing Program With Key Toy and Publishing Partners

Boston, MA — GBH, the leading multiplatform creator for public media in America and the producer of the PBS KIDS series Work It Out Wombats! announced licensing agreements in partnership with Moxie & Company in the toy and publishing space.

In the first issue of its new magazine, Topix Media is featuring games, puzzles, storytelling, and fun from Work It Out Wombats! The magazine will be available on newsstands, supermarkets and all over the U.S. where magazines are sold starting May 30, 2025.

The collaboration with tonies®, the original screen-free audio entertainment system for young children, will feature a Work It Out Wombats! Tonie launching in 2026, which will immerse young listeners with adventurous stories and catchy songs. Whether at home or on the go, kids will experience screen-free fun and educational and engaging entertainment while sparking their imagination and creativity with the Treeborhood community!

Also in 2026, Candlewick Press, one of the leading independent children’s publishers in the U.S., will launch a robust publishing program of new Work It Out Wombats! picture books and STEM educational books through their MIT Kids Press imprint.

“We are excited to expand the Work It Out Wombats! universe with innovative products that will further educate, entertain, and inspire kids and their families,” said Marcy Gunther and Marisa Wolsky, executive producers of Work It Out Wombats!.

“Millions of kids have fallen in love with Malik, Zadie and Zeke while learning computational thinking from the series. Now, they’ll have new and more ways to engage with the Wombats!,” said Arlene Scanlan, President of Moxie & Company.

Produced by GBH Kids and Pipeline Studios, Work It Out Wombats! takes place in the Treeborhood, the biggest treehouse in existence—with secret passageways, gondolas, and rope swings. The residents of the Treeborhood—wombats, snakes, moose, kangaroos, iguanas, fish, tarsiers, and eagles—bring varied skills and abilities, assorted ways of thinking, and different family structures and traditions to this vibrant community of neighbors, a place where even the adults join in the play. In each story, the Wombats demonstrate computational thinking for preschoolers, learning as they go. Their aspirations will sometimes exceed their proficiency. But eventually they’ll stop, take a breath, put their heads together and figure out a fix—using the design process, sequencing, debugging, and other key elements of computational thinking.

Work It Out Wombats! is a multi-platform project which includes the television series and digital games on PBS KIDS, the ”Work It Out Wombats Podcast,” and the “Work It Out Wombats Family App,” available for free download for both IOS and Android.
