Redibra Launches RLab Incubator in Brazil

Brazilian agent Redibra is launching RLab, an incubator designed to provide support for emerging production companies and bring them into licensing.

The program targets the growing content market in Brazil, which is benefitting from growing government support for the animation industry. The state-operated Brazil Audiovisual Sector Fund earlier this year boosted funding for animated features, TV and games to $370 million from $137 million. Brazil’s Ministry of Culture has made 17 investments, including 11 through the sector fund and six with the government-run Ancine film agency.

Redibra aims to “incubate and accelerate projects that we believe have potential,” says Managing Director David Diesendruck.

RLab will initially work with Belli Studio, which has produced the 26-episode, 11-minute “Boris & Rufus” series that launched on Disney XD in Brazil on Jan. 2 and across Latin America on April 2. It also started airing on the public television channel TV Cultura in Brazil on June 4.
