Wowwee Signs Licensing Deal with YouTube Channel Pinkfong
WowWee signs an exclusive licensing deal with South Korean statup SmartStudy for its Pinkfong YouTube channel, with plans to bring its apps and videos, including the popular Baby Shark Dance, to licensed toys in the U.S. for the first time. The Baby Shark Dance, which went viral in Southeast Asia in July 2017 and has since garnered 1.6 billion views along with 10 million subscribers to Pinkfong, is one of 170 apps the company has developed. The apps have received 200 million downloads, including 50 million in the U.S. WowWee’s Pinkfong-related products will be available in September 2019. The Pinkfong deal represents a renewed push by WowWee in licensing. The company has been focused on outbound licensing for its Fingerlings brand during the past year, but in the past has had agreements with Sesame Workshop and Universal Pictures (Despicable Me 3).
