The Sharpe Company Announce its Appointment by Tact Communications to Represent the Licensing Rights to Konami’s “Dance Dance Revolution”
The Sharpe Company is excited to announce its appointment by Tact Communications to represent the licensing rights to Konami’s “Dance Dance Revolution” (so called “DDR”), the iconic interactive arcade dance & music hit game of the late 1990s in the USA and across Europe.
Over 20 years since first release in 1998, DDR is still considered by some to be “by far the greatest arcade game ever!” and has had massive success in the video game market through Playstation in the late 80’s and early Nineties. Konami celebrated by launching a new “20th Anniversary Model” cabinet redesign, featuring gold-colored plating, a larger screen, and updated dance pad LED lighting launched at the beginning of the year.
Not only tapping into current trends for 90’s retro and nostalgia, considered ‘cool’ for Millennials and Generation X, the brand is also involved in the growing E-sports sector, with the “Konami Arcade Championship taking place for the 9th time in 2020 in the USA and competitors attending from all over the world. There is now also a movie in the pipeline from Greg Silverman’s ‘Stampede’ which will partner with Branded Pictures Entertainment, and IP owner Konami, on the film.

Konami partnered with WEGO, a fashion retailer based in Tokyo, to make DDR x apparel collaboration items. Sharpe is looking to build the programme in the fashion and trend sectors by finding high profile brand collaborations, develop social media influencer pick-ups and target third-party promotional tie-ins encouraging an active teen lifestyle for the gaming generations.
