Desk Details: Sharon Vinderine, Founder & CEO of Parent Tested Parent Approved
The global licensing community is guided by an incredible group of senior executives whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each month, we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.
How do you start your day?
My day starts at 5:30am with a coffee, some meditation, and then off to the gym to get my adrenaline going. I always dread going but I never regret having gone.
What’s one item you always need on your desk?
I actually need two things. My notebook, because I love the feel of a pen on paper, and my oversized water bottle—you would think I was trekking through the Sahara with the volume of water I drink in a day.
What unique skill or characteristic do you bring to your team?
High energy and passion. I’m genuinely excited about PTPA’s mission, and that enthusiasm helps keep the team aligned and moving toward our goals.
What is something you learned at a previous job that prepared you for your current role?
The team needs to know your “why” so that it gets woven into every conversation, shapes every marketing move, and anchors every decision. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose sight of your goals. Thank you, Simon Sinek.
What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
The ability to throw spaghetti against a wall and see what sticks. I love ideating with the team and testing out those ideas. If you don’t take risks by trying something new, you don’t move forward.
What is one thing you would change about the licensing industry?
People need people. Regardless of what stage of the business you are in or what your role is, I would say we need more opportunities for long-term relationship building outside of our inner circles.
If you had an extra hour in your workday, how would you use it?
Reading. I’m obsessed. A good book is my ultimate form of relaxation, and I read one to two books per week.
What is one thing you need to do every day to feel accomplished?
Some form of exercise, whether pickleball or the gym, but I need to be moving because it’s the perfect outlet for the stress of the workday.
Are you a carry-on or checked bag traveler?
For business, it’s 100% carry on. My luggage has been lost waaaay too many times. For personal travel on the other hand, you would think I was moving away permanently by the volume of clothes I pack.
What do you always have in your suitcase on a work trip?
A pair of heels. When you are petite like me, heels are a must!
If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing?
Working for a not-for-profit. That was originally what I wanted for myself and while I sit on a Board of Directors for a charity now, I could happily do that full time.
What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?
Relax. It’s all going to work out, so don’t kill yourself stressing over every decision. 99.99% of the things you worried about never ended up happening.
What are you most excited about moving forward?
We launched a Parent Insights Hub where brands access our community of over 250,000 parents as a research platform for co-creation, competitive benchmarking, and ultimately any insights—straight from their target consumer. I can’t wait to see what products get co-created as a result of this new platform!
