People Profile: Ben Krenz, Global General Manager, Games at Moose Toys
The global licensing community is powered by an incredible group of professionals whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each week we profile one of these professionals in this ongoing series.
How did you get into licensing (or how did licensing find you)?
I discovered the power of licensing when working as buyer for retail. So many fun collaborations.
What’s a “typical” day in your current position?
My current position is the Global General Manager for the Games business at Moose Toys. Excitingly, no day is the same. The goal is to build the strongest possible games portfolio for our fans. Great games can come from so many different places—standalone games we create in-house, acquisitions of already successful games, or games based on our own IP. But core to the DNA of the Moose Games’ line are licensed games, which have been a key part of our growth over the past few years. We’ve seen huge success with our Bluey games and we have even more exciting licensed games coming in 2026.
What’s your biggest personal or professional accomplishment?
My biggest personal accomplish is getting into shape during the pandemic to be able to run a marathon. It taught me how a consistent approach can make anything possible.
What are the most significant trends or changes that you’ve seen in the business in recent years?
The biggest change I have observed over the past five years is that the speed of culture is faster than ever. Moose is perfectly positioned to stay ahead of this—we have some big launches coming in 2026 that further solidifies our reputation for setting trends.
What keeps you up at night? What’s your biggest challenge these days?
Figuring out how to connect with consumers in an ever-changing media landscape. The playbook is constantly changing and trying to predict what it will look like a year from now is an incredible challenge, but one we’re certainly up for. When joining Moose, I knew I’d be part of a creative, nimble team willing to try new things in order to reach our core audiences. I’m looking forward to executing some fun programs with our big launches in 2026. Keep an eye out for more!
In your opinion, what is the top skill every licensing executive should have in order to succeed?
Curiosity. You need to get energy from learning new things and staying on top of the changes. Otherwise, you will quickly fall behind.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, or what’s your favorite quote?
“Chop wood and carry water.” I have this up at my desk as a reminder that consistent day-to-day performance will outperform sporadic bursts of energy any time.
What is your favorite licensing deal of all time? (It doesn’t have to be one that was signed by you.)
In board games, my favorite example is Disney Villainous. Such a great and different way to marry a license with fun gameplay.
