The Sparkle in the Grey

The Sparkle in the Grey, a one-act play written by former Licensing International board member and longtime industry veteran Robert Strand, will be performed this summer as part of the Chain Theatre 2026 Summer One-Act Festival in New York City. The play is a heartfelt tribute to licensing industry veteran, colleague, and dear friend Glenn Hendricks, who passed away last fall.

Glenn’s career spanned more than three decades and left an indelible mark on the licensing community. He began in 1989 at OSP Posters in Los Angeles, rising from the art department to become Creative Director under the mentorship of founder Joseph Angard and discovering his passion for the licensing business. After relocating to New York City in 1995, Glenn became a highly respected licensing agent, working with leading firms including Sloanevision, Sunbow (Sony), Lisa Frank, and Welch’s. He represented iconic properties such as Little League Baseball, Chicken Soup for the Soul, TV Guide, and Dairy Queen, and was a familiar and beloved face at trade shows around the world. A proud Licensing International member and recipient of multiple industry awards, Glenn was known for two things above all else: his extraordinary ability to close a deal and his absolutely legendary wardrobe.

The Sparkle in the Grey follows a ghost who watches as his sister and best friends attempt to plan his memorial, utterly convinced they are going to get it all wrong. It is funny, moving, and a beautiful celebration of a life fully and joyfully lived.
