Audible Unveils New Wynonna Earp Series at Comic-Con
New York, NY — Premium audio service Audible launched the original series Wynonna Earp: Tales of Purgatory at Comic-Con.
A panel discussion reunited original “Wynonna Earp” television series cast members Melanie Scrofano (“Wynonna Earp”), Tim Rozon (“Doc Holliday”), and Katherine Barrell (“Nicole Haught”), all of whom star in the new Audible Original, along with writer Emily Andras (creator, producer, writer of the television series Wynonna Earp),
Notable panel quotes included:
- Melanie Scrofano (“Wynonna Earp”) on the new aspects of her character’s development in the Audible series: “While Wynonna’s perspective usually drives the narrative, for the first time, we see her listen to someone else’s experiences, It adds an interesting dimension to her character and the story.”
- Tim Rozon (“Doc Holliday”) on performing his role as “Doc Holliday” in audio: “What I really appreciate about the audio adaptation was to have the freedom to go bigger in the performance and that’s something you don’t always get on TV. The Wynonna Earp universe is already pretty wild, but in this format, we could take it to even crazier, more imaginative places.”
- Emily Andras (creator, writer, and producer of the TV series Wynonna Earp) on her experience creating the audio adaptation for Audible: “When approaching the audio drama, I wanted to think of it from an auditory standpoint…The quality of the voice acting was incredible, bringing the characters to live in a new medium. It was such a fun process that I would love to create more audio content in the future. Audible was a wonderful partner throughout the production, and I’m thrilled with the positive responses we’ve received from listeners so far…”
On Thursday afternoon, Audible kicked off its New York Comic Con presence with an official panel, “The Sounds of Storytelling! How the Genre’s Greatest Writers and Narrators Take Listeners on the Ride of Their Lives,” highlighting some of the world’s best science fiction authors and performers and the unique and creative ways that words come alive through Audible performances. Panelists included Emily Andras (Wynonna Earp), Mary Robinette Kowal (The Lady Astronaut series), Ray Porter (The Bobiverse series, Project Hail Mary), R.A. Salvatore (The Legends of Drizzt), John Scalzi (Starter Villain, Constituent Service), and Dennis E. Taylor (The Bobiverse series).
Notable panel quotes included:
- Emily Andras (creator, writer, and producer of the TV series Wynonna Earp) on creating the new Audible Original Wynonna Earp: Tales from Purgatory: “Taking a beloved TV show and adapting it to this new medium allowed us to tell stories in a new environment…It was incredibly freeing and helped us reinvent characters and dive in the way we hadn’t been able to before.”
- Ray Porter (narrator of The Bobiverseseries, Project Hail Mary) on the process of narrating audiobooks: “You finish the book hoping that the author is pleased with how you brought their work to life through sound…I have worked hard to try to identify each book’s voice because every book does have a unique one.”
- John Scalzi (author of Starter Villain, Constituent Service) on how hearing his work in audio informs his writing approach: “I’ve drastically cut back my dialogue tags because, in audio, it makes such a difference to the listening experience. Now the irony is that by doing this, I’ve actually become a better author. Thank you Audible for that.”
