CandyRific Named New Licensee for Sunkist Fruit Gems
The fruit candy is expected to return to market in early 2027
Louisville, KY — CandyRific signed a new licensing deal for Sunkist Growers’ Sunkist Fruit Gems, with plans for returning the candy to the market in early 2027. Fruit Gems were previously licensed by Ferrara Candy Co., which said earlier this year it was discontinuing the product, four years after rescuing it from a similar fate.
Over the past several months, CandyRific and Sunkist Growers worked to continue the legacy of one of the brand’s most recognizable licensed products. The Christopher Candy Co. introduced Fruit Gems in the 1930s prior to the company being acquired by Ben Myerson Candy Co. in 1955. Myerson signed one of the first candy licensing deals with Sunkist in 1966.
Consumers can expect the same key product characteristics they know and love, including individually wrapped pieces, a soft texture, fruit flavors and kosher certification. Additional details regarding retail availability and launch timing will be announced as the return to market approaches.
“Over the past several months, we’ve worked closely with Sunkist to ensure Fruit Gems return with the qualities consumers expect, including their signature fruit flavors and kosher certification,” said BJ Ruckriegel, President of CandyRific. “We’re honored to help steward this iconic product and make Sunkist Fruit Gems available to consumers once again.”
“Sunkist Fruit Gems have been part of our licensing program since the early 1970s and were among the first products to carry the Sunkist name beyond fresh citrus,” said Dave Falk, Vice President, Global Licensing at Sunkist Growers. “For generations, the candy has connected consumers to the Sunkist brand, and we’re excited to work with CandyRific to continue that tradition and keep Fruit Gems available.”
“We recognize that this candy has been part of celebrations and everyday moments across generations, and we’re honored to help bring that beloved experience to consumers,” said Emily Edmondson, Vice President of Business Development and Merchandising at CandyRific.
“We’re excited about what comes next,” said Shayne Quinn, Vice President of Sales at CandyRific. “There is a lot of affection for this brand, and we take seriously the responsibility that comes with helping bring it back.”
