Coolabi Inks Deals with Blues Clothing and Brand International
Autumn/Winter 2014 will see the launch of a new Bagpuss collection thanks to a recent deal announced today by Coolabi, which will see Blues Clothing Limited manufacture Girls, Ladies and Maternity wear, Nightwear and Underwear. A Footwear deal with Brands International Group Limited has also been secured for the popular pink and white-striped pussycat.
Fran Huxley, Licensing Consultant, Coolabi says, “Bagpuss will be 40 years in February 2014, so what better way to celebrate than with a new Nightwear and Footwear collection on the high street. Fans of the series will adore these new designs and we are excited to partner with two great new licensees such as Blues Clothing and Brands International.”
Blues Clothing, a European business specialising in the design, manufacture and distribution of licensed apparel, will be supplying the new Bagpuss range to supermarkets and high street chains.
Patrick Bailey, Commercial Director, Blues Clothing comments, “In a market that loves brands with fantastic heritage and credibility, Blues is delighted to be Coolabi’s apparel partner for such an iconic brand as Bagpuss. We are looking forward to developing and designing fantastic Maternity wear, Nightwear and Underwear for launch in 2014.”
Brand International Group will be producing Footwear including Ladies and Girls slippers and novelty 3D plush slippers. These will be available in all good retailers and online.
Rob Meara, Director Of Sales, Brand International Group says, “The market is crying out for reliable characters that provide longevity and offer something different. Everyone knows and has warm memories of Bagpuss; the colours and fabrics offer themselves perfectly to Footwear and we’re very much looking forward to bringing Bagpuss to life on our Ladies and Girls slippers.”
The Bagpuss series was first aired on the BBC in 1974, and, although just 13 episodes were made, the shows ran for 26 weeks a year for 13 years. Channel 5 recently voted Bagpuss the third greatest kids TV programme of all time, and best character show, in a nostalgic countdown of the 50 best British children’s TV series over the past 60 years.
Coolabi represents the rights to the classic brand on behalf of Smallfilms and Peter Firmin, along with other well-known brands the Clangers and Ivor the Engine.
