DC Entertainment Product Sales Hit $4.5 Billion Last Year
Warner Bros. Consumer Products’ DC-entertainment-related merchandise generated $4.5 billion in sales in the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, helping drive a nearly 40% increase in the consumer group’s total annual revenue, Time-Warner CEO Jeffrey Bewkes told analysts. Warner Bros. film releases in 2016 included Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Warner Bros. films’ total box office revenue hit $5 billion 2016, the second highest year in the division’s history, Bewkes said. Warner Bros. also launched its DC Super Hero Girls property last year, led by toy licensee Mattel. Warner Bros. total annual revenue inched up to $13 billion. “We think we have a big opportunity to keep growing our consumer products business over the next few years,” Bewkes said.
