Desk Details: Lisa Streff, SVP of Licensing & Brand Development for North America at Global Merchandising Services

The global licensing community is guided by an incredible group of senior executives whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each month, we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.

How do you start your day?
On fire! I hit the ground running with a cup of green tea—my must-have morning boost—before diving into Teams calls. Since our company is based in London and I’m in the LA office, my workday kicks off bright and early!

What’s one item you always need on your desk?
My ring light! With so many Teams calls throughout the day, good lighting is a must.

What unique skill or characteristic do you bring to your team?
With a massive roster of artists and brands to manage, multitasking is essential. Over the years, I’ve honed my ability to juggle multiple projects while keeping everything running smoothly.

What is something you learned at a previous job that prepared you for your current role?
I had the privilege of learning the ins and outs of music merchandising from the legendary Dell Furano at Epic Rights/Bravado over a decade ago. That experience gave me a deep understanding of music licensing, which I now apply at Global Merchandising Services. Before that, my career was rooted in kids’ and character entertainment brands, so shifting into the music world was both a challenge and an exciting new chapter.

What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
I love that my job is not one-dimensional and that no two days are the same! Every artist we work with—whether it’s Iron Maiden, Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, or the Backstreet Boys—has a distinct identity, which makes crafting unique merchandising campaigns an exciting creative challenge. Oh, and getting to attend incredible shows is definitely a perk!

What is one thing you would change about the licensing industry?
The industry has evolved significantly over the past decade, bringing both challenges and opportunities. One thing I’d love to see improve is communication. In such a fast-paced environment, clear and consistent communication is more important than ever, yet it sometimes falls by the wayside.

If you had an extra hour in your workday, how would you use it?
More calls! There never seems to be enough time in the day to connect with everyone I need to.

What is one thing you need to do every day to feel accomplished?
I can’t end the day without clearing my inbox—it’s my way of staying on top of everything and sleeping soundly.

Are you a carry-on or checked bag traveler?
Checked bag, 100%! I don’t pack light.

What do you always have in your suitcase on a work trip?
A whole collection of chargers—staying connected is non-negotiable!

If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing?
I’d be working for a cause I’m truly passionate about.

What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?
Keep moving forward, stay curious, and always be open to learning. Growth never stops!

What are you most excited about moving forward?
The continued worldwide evolution of Global Merchandising Services. Last year was a standout year for us and, with new artists and brands coming on board, the momentum isn’t slowing down anytime soon as we expand our roster and capabilities!
