Desk Details: Maca Rotter, President & CEO of La Panadería Licensing & Marketing
The global licensing community is guided by an incredible group of senior executives whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each month, we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.
How do you start your day?
At 5:30 or 6:00 AM in the morning, I prepare a coffee. Yes, this is my first thing in the morning. Then I work out (almost every day) and get ready for whatever agenda I have wherever I am.
What’s one item you always need on your desk?
A Snoopy calendar and a cup of coffee.
What unique skill or characteristic do you bring to your team?
My door is always open for any question, and I try to engage in all related issues between teams and leadership. It sometimes feels like therapy, but I think that can be needed.
What is something you learned at a previous job that prepared you for your current role?
Nothing is forever and nothing is written in stone. Every day things can change, so be ready.
What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
It’s creativity and curiosity combined.
What is one thing you would change about the licensing industry?
That there would be access for small brands or small countries to all data that is available. Many times, research efforts don’t really apply for small or underdeveloped countries.
If you had an extra hour in your workday, how would you use it?
To read.
What is one thing you need to do every day to feel accomplished?
I clear my inbox IN FULL.
Are you a carry-on or checked bag traveler?
I wish I can be a carry-on person, but I bring a checked bag… and normally a big one.
What do you always have in your suitcase on a work trip?
Make up, something to eat like a snack that could go in my purse daily, and chargers.
If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing?
I think I would remain in entertainment and content, which is my second most relevant passion.
What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?
Don’t take it all so seriously. In the end everything is okay and, if is not, then it is not the end. (I heard this from a good friend, and I love it.)
What are you most excited about moving forward?
What’s most exciting is that I continue to be excited by this business after 30 years, not a bit less. Every day is something new and I love it. I wouldn’t change by career one bit. I am definitely where I should be.
