Desk Details: Marici Ferreira, CEO of EP Grupo and President of the Brazilian Licensing Association

The global licensing community is guided by an incredible group of senior executives whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each month, we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.

How do you start your day?
I start my day by exercising early in the morning. After that, I take breakfast with my family at home and then I go into the office. The first thing I do there is drink a Nespresso coffee.

What’s one item you always need on your desk?
A pencil and a notebook. Although I am a tech-savvy person, I collect pencils and writing things down on paper is something I really like to do. Also, having a notebook around is great for my organization. Sometimes I have a lot going on at the same time—a meeting, a WhatsApp message, a call—and I need to write everything down to remember.

What unique skill or characteristic do you bring to your team?
The attitude of making it happen. I can solve problems or start something new very quickly, without wasting time. And that’s exactly how my team is, too—there’s nothing that’s impossible for us.

What is something you learned at a previous job that prepared you for your current role?
I learned sales skills and I also developed problem solving skills, which help me a lot to be patient with clients and work with them to find solutions.

What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
I love to innovate, creating something new and novel. That’s why I started the Licensing Fair in Brazil and why I continue to do it after 17 years. Every year there’s something new and exciting for the clients and visitors! It’s great to encourage the Brazilian licensing market to grow.

What is one thing you would change about the licensing industry?
I would like to see more partnership between companies, one helping the other. And more attitude to take risks to create new and different things.

If you had an extra hour in your workday, how would you use it?
I would enjoy life by spending more time with my family, friends, and my dogs.

What is one thing you need to do every day to feel accomplished?
Work! I love it and I feel accomplished when I see the result of my work and when I see things happening. This is my personal satisfaction.

Are you a carry-on or checked bag traveler?
Checked. I’m one of those people who like to dress well and bring extra clothes, just in case.

What do you always have in your suitcase on a work trip?
I always have my computer and an extra battery, and I always carry a lipstick in my purse.

If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing?
I would be a retailer, selling products for kids or babies. That’s something I’ve always been interested in, especially with this new era of retail with so many experiences in-store.

What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?
Value yourself as a professional.

What are you most excited about moving forward?
I’m excited to see new technologies, such as AI, coming to help our jobs. Also, the market has a lot of potential and power to grow. I’m excited to be part of this story.
