G-III Sports Renews Starter License as It Prepares to Launch AAF
G-III Sports renewed its license for Iconix’ Starter brand (when used in conjunction with sports licenses), and will bring the Starter Black label into children’s clothing (also with professional sports logos) for the first time. It also is preparing to launch on-field apparel and uniforms for the new Alliance of American Football (AAF).
Both the AAF uniforms and children’s Starter Black apparel are additions to Iconix’s agreement with G-III, which dates back to 2012. The AAF uniforms will be Starter’s first on-field presence since 1998. G-III Sports, a division of G-III Apparel, is headed by former New York Giants star Carl Banks. The renewed pact comes as Iconix seeks to expand its Starter business after an agreement with Walmart expired in 2017; Amazon launched a Starter collection as a DTR later that year.
The AAF features eight teams (Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AB: Memphis, TN; Orlando, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; San Antonio, TX; and San Diego, CA) playing a 12-week season that starts Feb. 9 and ends with a championship on the weekend of April 26-28.
The Starter Black children’s apparel will be available by summer, an Iconix spokeswoman said.
