The global licensing community is constantly on the move, forming connections and sharing insights at trade shows around the world. In this ongoing series, we catch a senior executive in transit to ask them for their travel tips and their best advice to take full advantage of industry events.

What are your essentials when travelling for work?
When I travel, I usually try to pack as light as possible. I carry the essentials for the journey in my hand luggage, such as my passport, wallet with credit cards, laptop, mobile phone (where I usually keep boarding passes and my itinerary), various chargers and a power adapter, an external battery, noise-cancelling headphones, and an iPad to watch a good movie or documentary. I also make sure I have a small toiletry bag with a toothbrush, deodorant, and perfume, long socks, a sweater, and a good first aid kit with medication for emergencies. Not forgetting a good book—usually a biography from someone in the sports or music industry, or someone who can inspire me.

What is your best tip for navigating a busy show floor?
I believe in the importance of advance preparation, so I have a clear idea of what I want to accomplish, and I strive to be precise in meetings to convey a clear message. I also aim to be on time to all my meetings, but it can be a challenge on a busy show floor, so if I run into people, I will stop for a brief chat and arrange another time to catch up with them properly. And, most importantly, I wear comfortable footwear and carry my iPad and a notebook, so I don’t miss anything.

What do you always have with you at a conference?
I generally have a notebook, my phone, a bottle of water, and good sweater to prevent the chill from air conditioning! Usually, conferences are busy, and as you’re constantly on the go, I try not to carry too much.

What is something you want to accomplish by the end of every trade show?
Firstly, trade shows are such a great place to see partners, colleagues, and industry peers face-to-face and build those valuable connections. Secondly, it’s important to obtain as much relevant and useful information as possible that I can apply to my work or projects. Thirdly, I want to have met the specific goals I set for each meeting, such as closing deals, solving problems, or advancing projects. Overall, I want to feel that my time was well spent and that the trade show was productive and beneficial.

What do you read or watch on the trip home to unwind after an event?
I try to relax by watching a good movie or TV show, such as the latest biopic from tennis player Carlos Alcaraz or the new season of Full Swing. Sometimes, I will read a good book, which helps me to disconnect and take my mind off work—often a biography or something historical—anything that offers interesting insights. Then, I may listen to relaxing music to help me fall asleep.
