Large Scale Murals by Artist Katie Merz (KT) in NYC’s Hippest Neighborhoods Adapted for Contemporary Lifestyle Products

Mid Atlantic Licensing/Synchronicity Announce Collaborations for Wallpaper and Large Decals with Brewster Home Fashions, LLC and Area Rugs and Soft Home Accessories with Kalaty Rug Corp

The Flatbush Mural, the Brooklyn Bank, the Bushwick Blue Building, Industry City, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Dekalb Market Hall are just a few of the landmark locations transformed by massive signature murals of artist Katie Merz (KT). KT’s spontaneous artworks comprise glyphs representing the history, personality, and culture of each location’s neighborhood, which are densely sandwiched in wild orientations. Her unique combinations of words and neighborhood themes and icons, echo both traditional graffiti and the friezes of classical public buildings. Since winning a 2016 competition to decorate the 9000 sq ft exterior of 80 Flatbush Avenue, KT has since been inundated with commissions to replicate this work on walls in high visibility locations including restaurants, bars, coffee shops (including multiple regional Starbucks locations), gyms and yoga studios, and work spaces across the country in destination cities including New York, Austin, and Denver.

KT’s vibrant public art walls can now be brought inside the home though a debut collection aptly branded URBNGLYPHS. “KT’s art is perfectly suited to home-décor and furnishing categories where her limited colors, bold lines and large-scale depictions are so very different from more deliberately decorative collections,” explains agent, Jonathan Close.

“We have started with her landmark Brooklyn locations and themes but will quickly be adding murals from other destination cities, as well as original art inspired by other notable urban themes.

Close and partner agent Cynthia Hall Domine of Synchronicity are pleased to announce their first two licensees – Brewster Home Fashions for wallcoverings including large murals and wallpapers, and Kalaty Rug for both hand-loomed and machine-made rugs and decorative pillows.

“The ability to directly derive designs and collections from authentic locations, often on landmark buildings, provides a powerful marketing story.” says Adam D’Agostine, Chief Marketing Officer of Brewster Home Furnishings. “We are literally recreating almost at scale KT’s spectacular urban murals on the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn Bank, and Bushwick inside. The effect of capturing not only the art but the surface textures and architectural details on complete walls is breathtaking.”

“We were instantly taken by KT’s BKLYN.NY images and envision them as an especially exciting opportunity for Kalaty,” says Ariel Kalaty, EVP of Hicksville, NY-based Kalaty Rug Corporation. “We see KT’s signature artwork translating seamlessly into high-energy rug collections that will attract new audiences to her uniquely urban aesthetic. Kalaty will draw from a number of KT’s original themes for rug collections with applications for a range of sophisticated environments as well as her delightful original sports & recreation themed artworks for children’s rooms.”

Textile categories, wall art, tabletop categories, stationery, street and athletic apparel, accessories and footwear are targeted next. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be representing KT and her amazing art. KT brings a very intoxicating and inspiring joie de vivre to the market,” muses Cynthia Hall Domine. “This is the joy we can all use during these unusual times.”
