NEW YORK (August 9, 2014) – The original television series Outlander™ makes its highly anticipated debut tonight on STARZ and Knockout Licensing has been appointed by Sony Pictures Television to manage licensing for the romantic/fantasy entertainment franchise.
“Outlander already has a fervent fan base thanks to the over 25 million copies of books sold to date from the 8-book Outlander series. Now, with the show’s debut — backed by phenomenal marketing support from Sony Pictures Television and STARZ — the appetite for licensed product has been growing at a quick pace,” said Tamra Knepfer, Knockout Licensing Co-President. ”We are already working on a number of different licensing deals to satiate the fan-base.”
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the devotion and intensity of Outlander fans, who have been closely following the evolution of the series from the first announcement, said Chris Van Amburg, Senior Vice President – Marketing for Sony Pictures Television. “We’re looking for the best partners to support the brand and exceed the expectations of our viewers.”
Outlander is an original television series produced for STARZ by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. The series – which spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale – is adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s New York Times bestselling Outlander book series. Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 and thrown by circumstances beyond her control into the arms of Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior.
