How did you get into licensing (or how did licensing find you)?
I started working in house for media and entertainment companies in licensing and distribution of content. Over the years working with a variety of business owners and content creatives, I developed a passion for brands and nascent ways of expression. I adore brands so much I created my own blog known as the Trademark Channel! 

What’s a “typical” day in your current position?
I work with business owners, creatives, agencies, and entrepreneurs navigating their brands. Typically reviewing business deal terms, rights, and branding strategies.

What’s your biggest personal or professional accomplishment?
Having my own business and the ability to work with people and businesses that resonate with my own path and passion for brands, and helping individuals make their “mark” in the world. I also got to meet the infamous Stan Lee when I worked for the company he started—POW! Entertainment—and that was a real thrill.

What are the most significant trends or changes that you’ve seen in the business in recent years?
The plight of the independent producer has changed along with those in the music space, based on factors such as fractionalization and consolidation. This has sparked a generation of content creators. Also, recent cases revolving around Warhol and Jack Daniels/Bad Spaniels show that things are shifting and that brands and rights holders have a strong equity and place in the consumer space.

What keeps you up at night? What’s your biggest challenge these days?
Much of what is indefinite in emerging and disruptive technologies, as well as the widespread and readily accessible nature of the same. As things like artificial intelligence progress, the line between what’s real and potential chaos is something that is a moving target that’s getting harder to aim at.

In your opinion, what is the top skill every licensing executive should have in order to succeed?
A passion for brands.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, or what’s your favorite quote?
“Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.”

What is your favorite licensing deal of all time? (It doesn’t have to be one that was signed by you.)
I think, in general, all of the Funko toys.  They have a unique style and also have a variety that appeals to fans of everything from the most popular to the most niche market. The other one was a Simpsons-themed plane!

If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing now?
A private eye.
