People Profile: Stéphan Philippe, Licensing Coordinator at FIFA
The global licensing community is powered by an incredible group of professionals whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy drive innovation and excellence. Each week we’re profiling one of these professionals in this ongoing series.
How did you get into licensing (or how did licensing find YOU😊)?
I saw the job offer on the FIFA website and applied. I didn’t really know what licensing was exactly about, but the tasks listed in the job description seemed interesting (and it is, really). So here I am.
What’s a “typical” day in your current position?
There is no typical day in my current position, I have learnt that since day 1. This is a very fast-paced environment, especially when working for one of the biggest brands, group in sports. It really depends on the needs of the team and the ongoing projects.
What’s your biggest personal and professional accomplishment?
The biggest professional accomplishment at FIFA so far was the launch of the FIFAe brand consumer products assets. I had the chance to work on it from the beginning and it was gratifying to see it come to life. I also organized with my team a launch event in London and was the main speaker. Preparation was key and it was nice to receive the good feedbacks we did.
What keeps you up at night? What’s your biggest challenge these days?
My biggest challenge these days is to tick all the boxes of my daily to-do list.
In your opinion, what is the top skill every licensing executive should have in order to succeed?
The top skill in my position is adaptability/versatility. You must be able to multitask.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received? OR What is your favorite quote?
Favorite quote: Always shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.
Advice: Believe in yourself and don’t be scared to fail.
If you weren’t in licensing, what would you be doing now?
I was a product manager in telecommunications before joining FIFA but I would probably still be in sports business (marketing, product management) if not in licensing.
