Scholarship Spotlight – Alex Wang image

We are excited to announce that one of our 2025 Scholarship Recipients, Alex Wang, will be featured at this year’s Hall of Fame event. Learn about Alex and his passion for the licensing industry below!

What inspired you to pursue a career in the licensing industry?
Growing up, my favorite characters and shows shaped who I am today. Reflecting on this, I made it my goal to create experiences that bring the same joy and memories to others. When I discovered licensing, I realized it sits at the core of entertainment by linking products, content, and experiences.

How did receiving the Licensing International scholarship impact your path?
Before receiving the scholarship, I was exploring licensing on my own, learning as much as I could and trying to find my place in the industry. The scholarship validated that journey and gave me confidence that I was on the right path, and that my passion truly belongs here. Being recognized by Licensing International inspired me to work harder to make a lasting impact, and to one day help empower others the same way the scholarship empowered me.

How do you see younger generations shaping the future of licensing?
Younger generations are pushing the boundaries of licensing with their overflowing creativity. With tools like AI and the internet, they’re blending art, tech, and fandom in ways we’ve never seen. In a world where competition for attention is fierce, creativity has to be bold, and that’s where this generation shines. They’re not afraid to experiment and challenge what “works,” which will push licensing to evolve faster than ever.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to students or young professionals entering the industry?
The licensing industry is like one big, supportive, and incredibly passionate family. Every connection can open new doors, and people genuinely want to see you grow. Be curious, reach out, and start conversations. Many of the most meaningful opportunities I’ve had came from simply connecting with someone.

Why do you think it’s important to celebrate leaders and trailblazers in licensing?
When leaders are celebrated, it not only validates their work but inspires others to aim higher and dream bigger. Celebrating those who pave the way reminds us all that progress is a collective effort and that, together, we can keep pushing the boundaries of what licensing can achieve.

If you could predict one big change in the industry over the next 5–10 years, what would it be?
We’re going to see a large increase of smaller, creator-led IPs building established global fandoms. With the rise of AI and digital platforms, storytelling is no longer limited to big studios. Independent creators can now create ecosystems that reach millions, and licensing will be the tool that turns those digital communities into real-world experiences and products. I predict that licensing expos in 5-10 years will be filled with many more independent creators seriously building full-scale media brands.

What role do you see young professionals playing in shaping the licensing landscape?
I see young professionals as the bridge between cultures, markets, and fandoms. Growing up globally connected through social media, we naturally understand fast-moving trends that transcend geographic limitations. This perspective allows us to identify what’s driving the licensing industry and translate global momentum into local relevance, shaping a more agile and culturally attuned licensing landscape.

How has the program connected you with people or opportunities in the industry?
It opened doors I never imagined. Through Licensing International, I’ve met inspiring mentors and peers who’ve shown me just how diverse and collaborative the licensing world is. Opportunities like attending the Licensing Expo Las Vegas scholarship experience has provided me exposure to industry leaders and exclusive company insights that blew me away. Each conversation sparked new ideas and helped me visualize how I can make my impact on the industry’s future.
