Scouts BSA Licenses Lifestyle Products, Launches Pinewood Derby Program
Despite changing its name as girls enter the ranks for the first time, Scouts BSA will retain the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) logo for licensing and is bringing more lifestyle products into the fold.
The 108-year-old group, which changed its name in February, struck deals for the BSA logo with Yeti (“Rambler” customized tumblers) and Instant Message (t-shirts emblazoned with “Explore” and “Proud Scout Mom”). Instant Message is selling the products through its own site and Zulily. Yeti is customizing products ranging from 10-ounce mugs to one-gallon jugs with eight different logos, including the corporate trademark as well as Cub Scouts and Eagle Scout.
The group is overhauling the look of its longtime Pinewood Derby model vehicle racing program– a new styleguide has been developed – as part of an effort to turn it into a year-round program, rather than one which takes place mainly between February and April, Scouts BSA Licensing Specialist Iris Houston told us at Licensing Expo in June. Scouts BSA is seeking a new licensee for Pinewood Derby kits, having parted with long-time supplier Revell, which was sold last year to the German investment group Blitz after Revell parent Hobbico filed for bankruptcy protection.
