Stobbs Responds to Increased Demand for Help With Exploitation of IP
In response to increased demand from brand owners for help with maximising revenue from their IP, Stobbs, a multi-award-winning UK IP law firm, has recently hired Esther Jolley, formerly in senior positions at both Beanstalk and CAA-GBG.
Esther has many years’ experience working with leading agencies, and has worked with brands including Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Harley-Davidson, Hershey’s, Mercedes-Benz, Ford and Kodak. She also spent time with leading watch and clock manufacturer, Zeon, where she worked with Licensors including Disney, BBC, Warner Bros and eOne.
Julius Stobbs, founder of Stobbs, confirms that licensing expertise is becoming an increasingly important part of Stobbs’ overall offering:
“Our clients tell us that they are constantly being challenged to find ways to increase brand value and maximise revenue generation through the exploitation of their IP. Executed appropriately, we know licensing is a great way to do this. Whilst we have been offering Brand Licensing advice for some time, demand has been increasing along with a need to be flexible in the solutions we suggest. Esther brings with her years of on-the-ground commercial experience with world-leading brand owners and manufacturers, and her experience both complements and strengthens our existing team.”
With an enviable client list of brand owners, the Stobbs team are a blend of legal, commercial and brand specialists and so are uniquely positioned to handle all aspects of brand management. The Stobbs team prides itself on offering “the best holistic and strategic advice, with a commercial approach, communicated with no agenda, no waffle and no jargon”. Already a foundation of Stobbs’ business, they offer a range of flexible options for clients for any budget and across all types of work.
Stobbs created ‘Intangible Asset Management’ (IAM) – the range of interconnected brand-focused functions around its core business of managing TM portfolios, and providing legal advice relating to all things IP and IA.
Julius explains:
“Brand owners have very different aims and objectives when looking at exploiting their IP. In strengthening our licensing expertise, we are not setting ourselves up to operate like a licensing agency and we don’t need to work on a fixed model. We want to be very flexible in the solutions we offer. We might be part of our clients’ in-house team; we may help them select the right agency or licensee or complete a short-term project; be that creating a strategy or helping them with a tricky situation. We also have complementary areas of expertise to licensing within our IAM offering such as online brand enforcement and anti-counterfeiting solutions, so we aim to cover all bases.”
As well as utilising their in-house expertise, Stobbs will be looking to work with and refer licensing industry experts to their clients. This is a model which has worked very successfully for them in their core business. Esther is open to discuss opportunities with brand owners and industry experts.
