Stuart Clarke: Shaping the Future of Confectionery Licensing

For almost four decades, Stuart Clarke has been a driving force in the confectionery industry, building an impressive career across Australia’s most recognised grocery and snack food companies. His journey began in 1986 with Dinnie Rundle, an importer and distributor of confectionery and snack foods that later became part of Network Foods. Stuart quickly rose through the ranks, relocating from Perth to Melbourne in 1989 to take on the role of State Manager for Victoria before stepping into senior national leadership positions, including Executive Director.

In 2000, Stuart joined Stuart Alexander, ultimately becoming Head of Sales, Business Development, before launching his own successful food and confectionery consulting business in 2005. Four years later, he joined Park Avenue Foods as Brand & Business Manager, spending more than a decade developing and marketing licensed confectionery and biscuits for both local and international markets.

By 2020, Stuart was ready for a new challenge. He joined Universal Candy, establishing the Licensing Division from the ground up. Today, that division has become one of Universal AU’s main pillars, securing licensing agreements with some of the biggest and most beloved brands in the world. Under Stuart’s leadership, Universal has launched countless products across all channels, from everyday favourites to seasonal bestsellers.

More recently, Stuart has pioneered co-branded collaborations that have delighted consumers of all ages, pairing Universal’s iconic confectionery brands such as Trolli and Zappo with global favourites like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Barbie, and Hot Wheels. These collaborations have not only strengthened Universal’s market position but have also showcased the creativity and strategic vision that Stuart brings to the table.

As Stuart himself says, he loves being part of a business that “puts smiles on the faces of Australian kids every day”, and the licensing industry is undoubtedly better for his passion, innovation, and dedication.
