The Brilliant World of Tom Gates Boosts Sainsbury’s Back-to-School Range

The first ever range of products based on the world famous Tom Gates children’s books, and television series The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, will be available exclusively in store at Sainsbury’s and Argos this month. The back-to-school promotion is supported by a month-long in-store POS campaign in the power aisle and a national competition.

The significant retail promotion was arranged by The Point.1888, Tom Gates’ brand licensing agent for the UK, as part of a wider brand programme to encourage children to get creative through doodling, music and crafting. 275 Sainsbury’s stores across the country (as well as online in Sainsbury’s and Argos) are selling the exclusive back-to-school range which includes gel pens, backpack, doodle book, lunchbag, sipper bottle, colour-in pencil case together with a range of the popular Tom Gates books.

All items have been specially designed for Tom Gates fans to maximise interactivity and creativity. The launch Is also supported by a ‘summer doodle’ competition in Sainsbury’s stores run by Tom Gates Entertainment with a range of prizes including an exclusive doodle by creator Liz Pichon.

The inspiration for the new range is a result of The Point.1888’s pioneering retail-first model based on the gaps it identifies at retail alongside a deep-seated knowledge of the brand’s target demographics.

Tom’s creator, writer and illustrator, Liz Pichon, has produced 19 (and counting) award-winning, multi-million-copy-bestselling Tom Gates books that are enjoyed by readers around the world.  Translated into 45 languages, the stories are warm and funny, full of family, friends and treats and bursting with creativity and music.

Now Tom Gates and his brilliant world have been vividly brought to life on screen as a modular, mixed-media magazine format TV show for his legion of fans in …. drumroll…. The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, supported by a dedicated new website and YouTube channel.  Liz herself presents the Draw-it segments of the show along with writing lyrics to the catchy songs in the Sing-it section.

The books are published by Scholastic in the UK and have won over 25 awards and sold more than 11m copies worldwide.  The 19th book in the series, Random Acts of Fun is published in October.  The Brilliant World of Tom Gates (produced by TG Entertainment) launched first on Sky Kids in the UK and Ireland and is also being enthusiastically received by Tom Gates fans around the globe.  A range of Tom Gates licensed products have launched in the UK in summer 2021 and roll out internationally in 2022.
