The ARTiSTORY STORE, the company’s first ever physical store, is the result of years of collaboration between prominent international cultural institutions, including the British Library and the Centre Pompidou. It seeks to create a dynamic space that not only showcases art but also facilitates cultural interactions through various narratives and creative experiences. Inspired by the artifacts from the extensive collections of these renowned institutions, the ARTiSTORY STORE promises to provide visitors with enriching cultural experiences that resonate with all ages.
A gateway to global culture
The ARTiSTORY STORE is a commercial complex situated at the eastern base of Niu Shou Mountain in Nanjing. This significant project, backed by Nanjing City and Jiangning District, leverages the stunning natural landscape of Niu Shou Mountain and the nearby Hilton Hotel. It emphasizes “Destination Exploration” as its core offering, aiming to establish a distinctive identity for “Nanjing New Business.”
It aims to attract tourists and locals alike by offering a unique blend of cultural exhibits, creative retail, and aesthetic education workshops. The store is not just a retail space; it is envisioned as a community platform for learning, communication, and growth, particularly appealing to families and young audiences.
Architectural inspirations
The design of the museum reflects the inspirations drawn from its international partners. In the British Library theme area, visitors can marvel at a towering 7-meter-high bookshelf, reminiscent of the King’s Library’s book tower in London. This installation invites guests to immerse themselves in the world of literature while surrounded by the scent of books and the charm of literary classics.
Kai-Chuan Chao, Head of East Asia at the British Library’s Commercial Department, said that she was pleased to see that some of the British Library’s collections could be creatively reproduced through brand licensing cooperation to create an immersive interactive experience space and meet the audience in Nanjing.
Similarly, the Centre Pompidou theme area draws from its iconic architectural style, employing pipe and truss structures to create a vibrant and contemporary atmosphere. This space serves as a canvas for modern and contemporary art, allowing visitors to engage with masterpieces in a lively and colorful setting.
A hub for cultural exchange
The ARTiSTORY STORE is more than just a museum; it is a cultural ecosystem. It features a retail area filled with licensed cultural and creative products from the British Library and the Centre Pompidou, ranging from children’s literature to art master series. Visitors can take home a piece of this cultural journey, making the experience both educational and memorable.
Additionally, the store has partnered with China’s original coffee brand, NEWSROOM, to launch the ARTiSTORY Café. This café aims to offer artistic coffee products that inspire creativity and conversation, further enhancing the cultural experience.
Looking ahead
As the ARTiSTORY STORE continues to develop, it plans to host various activities, including art markets, cultural salons, and lectures, fostering a sense of community among visitors. This initiative invites people from all walks of life to engage with art and culture, making it a vital part of Nanjing’s cultural landscape.
The ARTiSTORY STORE stands as a testament to the power of cultural exchange and innovation. By merging art, stories, and community engagement, it promises to be a new landmark in Nanjing, enriching the cultural fabric of the region and beyond.
