“The initial response from the licensing community for OUTLANDER has been fantastic,” says Knockout Licensing Co-President Tamra Knepfer. “OUTLANDER is the perfect mix of genres, capturing a broad television audience – adding to the already large and avid fan-base established from the books. The show is simply exquisite, the characters are easy to love, and the marketing support from Sony and Starz has been unprecedented. With eight books in the series, worldwide distribution of the television show, and the second season already greenlit, OUTLANDER is a true franchise property that is here to stay.”
The television series adaptation for OUTLANDER was developed by executive producer and Peabody Award Winner Ronald D. Moore (2005, “Battlestar Galactica”), best known for his contributions to the Star Trek franchise. Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company, and Left Bank Pictures produce outlander in association with Sony Pictures Television.
The series – which spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale – is adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s New York Times bestselling OUTLANDER book series. OUTLANDER follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 and thrown by circumstances beyond her control into the arms of Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior.
With the first eight episodes having already garnered critical and popular acclaim, OUTLANDER is due to return to Starz for the second half of its first season on April 4, 2015. A second season is already in pre-production.
